In 2022, I went through one of the most difficult periods of my life—a brutal stretch of insomnia that left me physically exhausted, emotionally drained, and mentally frayed. At one point, I went three entire days without sleeping. Not even a minute. I tried everything: melatonin, NyQuil, herbal teas, sleep playlists, white noise. Nothing worked.
Sleep, something most people take for granted, became a battle I fought nightly.
The worst part of insomnia is how isolating it feels. It’s quiet, dark, and still, yet your mind races like it’s trapped in daylight. As the hours drag on, you start to dread nightfall. You feel betrayed by your own body.
Eventually, I realized I needed more than a pill or a product—I needed to completely rebuild my night routine from the ground up. That’s when things slowly began to shift. I created a ritual. No screens past a certain time, dim lighting, reading, breathwork—and one surprising thing that made an enormous difference: fragrance.
Fragrance has a direct line to the brain’s limbic system, which controls emotion, memory, and sleep. It’s not just about how something smells—it’s about how it feels. I began using specific scents to wind down, to tell my body: It’s safe now. You can rest.
That personal healing journey led to the creation of Nidra, our candle named after the Sanskrit word for sleep. It’s not just a beautiful scent—it’s a tool. Formulated with neuroscientists, Nidra is made with jasmine essential oil, known to support the release of GABA, a neurotransmitter that calms the nervous system and prepares the body for rest. The pattern on the base of the candle even mirrors the brainwave activity associated with sleep.
Nidra is more than a candle. It’s a nightly reminder to slow down, soften, and surrender. It’s for anyone who’s ever stared at the ceiling at 3am wondering if sleep will ever come. I’ve been there—and Nidra is the scent I wish I had then.
If you’re struggling with sleep, I see you. I hope Nidra helps bring you the peace it brought me.
