I sat down with Kylie Nakao founder of a bespoke NYC based jewelry brand Tarin Thomas and asked her about her about her daily rituals and where she finds the most peace.Like many people embracing wellness-focused habits, Kylie also appreciates the role of clean fragrance in creating a calming atmosphere

What do your rituals look like?

My mornings are everything to me. I love to wake up early and get the day started with a few key habits that create my morning ritual.
-i typically naturally wake up right before my alarm if i get to bed early enough - i live for sleep, so my morning ritual starts with getting a good night's sleep
-morning workout, always! a great way to wake my mind and body up. I'm obsessed with Liftonic and Work, Train, Fight Boxing Club lately.
-I prefer green tea or lemon water instead of coffee in the morning.  

How do you use scent or space to feel grounded?


If I have a way to feel grounded using scents or space, that would be biking. I ride my bike all around town and feel so connected to the city! It gives me a whole new perspective of the city - a different view of the places I pass by daily that I've been visiting for years. My biking allows me to connect to my surroundings and express the connection between fragrance and mood as well as how our environments affect our emotional health..

What’s been helping you slow down, soften, or reset?


This time of year my favorite thing to slow down is cook for family and friends. I love to cook but typically don't have time to. It's tough to make time for that in a city that is so go go go. Listening to my body, figuring out my needs, knowing it's okay to change my plans or skip events altogether (although I don't always succeed at this) and occasionally allowing myself to prioritize only my favourite things e.g. farmers markets, barbecue with my friends, having a glass (or two) of fine wine make a difference.
